Intent-based bridge

Across

Across moves coins between Ethereum, its networks and several other chains, usually in seconds. You send funds on one network, and an independent pays you on the other side from its own money. The relayer gets paid back later, so you do not have to wait.

How it works

  1. 1You deposit your tokens into the Across contract on the network you are leaving. You choose where they should go and the fee you will pay.
  2. 2A relayer sends you the same tokens on the destination network from its own funds. You get them right away, without waiting for your deposit to fully settle.
  3. 3Later, the relayer is paid back from a shared on Ethereum. These repayments are checked by the UMA . They go through unless someone disputes them during a .

Trust model

You are trusting the UMA oracle and the idea that at least one honest party is watching. If a relayer asks to be repaid for something it did not do, someone has to spot it and dispute it in time.

Strengths

  • Moving funds off a layer 2 usually takes seconds, instead of the several days the official exit can take.
  • All the money sits in one pool on Ethereum, not split across every network.

Limitations

  • Works mostly with Ethereum-style () networks, plus Solana and TRON. No native Bitcoin.
  • Supports only a short list of tokens compared with .
  • Very large transfers depend on relayers having enough money on hand.
