Linea to Ethereum Bridge

Leaving Linea through the native bridge takes about 2 to 12 hours, and you must claim the funds on Ethereum yourself. USDC can come back in seconds with the fast mode of Circle CCTP. Fast bridges pay out ETH and other tokens in seconds or minutes.

Short answer

Withdrawing from Linea is slower than depositing. A deposit through the takes about 20 minutes. A withdrawal of ETH or other tokens takes about 2 to 12 hours, according to the Linea docs. When it is ready, you send a second transaction on Ethereum to claim it. Nobody does this for you.

That is still much quicker than the week you wait on Arbitrum or OP Mainnet. Linea is a zk , so Ethereum accepts its results once a proof has been checked. There is no to sit through.

If a few hours is too long, you have other options. In the Linea app, the "All Bridges" tab uses LI.FI to find routes through other bridges. Fast bridges such as Across and Relay pay you on Ethereum within seconds or minutes. For USDC, the native bridge itself offers a fast CCTP mode that the Linea docs put at about 8 seconds.

Why this route is difficult

Linea is a zk rollup. A prover creates a cryptographic proof that a batch of Linea transactions was run correctly, and a contract on Ethereum checks it. Your withdrawal can only be paid out after the batch that contains it has been proven on Ethereum. That is where the hours go.

The native bridge then needs a claim on Ethereum. On deposits, a service called the postman can claim for you. On withdrawals from Linea to Ethereum, the Linea docs say manual claiming is required. The bridge app marks the transfer "Ready to claim" when you can do it.

Old transfers need care. If a manual claim is older than 90 days, it no longer shows in the native bridge app. The funds are not lost, but you have to claim them another way, as described in the Linea message service docs. In the past, Linea withdrawals have at times been delayed far beyond the normal time, so keep the transaction hash.

USDC follows a different path. Linea has native USDC issued by Circle, so the native bridge moves it with CCTP instead of the token bridge. Your USDC is burned on Linea and new USDC is created on Ethereum. USDC transfers also need a manual claim.

Possible approaches

1Native rollup withdrawal

Withdraw through Linea's canonical token bridge and claim on Ethereum once the batch is proven.

Trade-offNo third party involved, but hours of waiting, a second transaction and a 0.001 ETH fee.

2Intent-based bridge

A or pays you on Ethereum right away and is paid back later.

Trade-offSeconds instead of hours, for a fee and some risk in the bridge's own contracts.

3Aggregator

A service like LI.FI compares bridges and and picks a route for you.

Trade-offConvenient and often fast, but the safety depends on the route it picks.

4Issuer burn-and-mint

Circle CCTP destroys your USDC on Linea and creates native USDC on Ethereum.

Trade-offNative USDC with no pool limits, but it only works for USDC and needs a claim.

How to move Linea to Ethereum

These steps show an ETH withdrawal through the Native Bridge tab of the Linea bridge app. If you do not want to wait hours, use the "All Bridges" tab or a fast bridge instead. The wallet checks are the same.

  1. 1

Check your ETH on both networks

You need ETH on Linea to start the withdrawal and to pay the 0.001 ETH anti-DDOS fee. You also need ETH on Ethereum for the claim later. Without it, your funds wait in the bridge until you top up.

  2. 2

Open the bridge and set the direction

Open the bridge app from the official Linea site, not from an ad. Select the "Native Bridge" tab and choose the direction from Linea (L2) to Ethereum (L1).

  3. 3

    Choose the token and amount

Pick ETH or a token from Linea's token list and enter the amount. A token you have not bridged before needs an approval first. You can also set a different recipient address, but double check it.

  4. 4

    Confirm and wait

Click "Bridge" and sign. The funds leave your Linea balance right away. The transfer appears in the bridge history, which you open with the receipt icon. Expect about 2 to 12 hours.

  5. 5

    Claim on Ethereum

When the transfer shows "Ready to claim", open it, press "Claim" and sign the transaction on Ethereum. After that, the ETH shows in your wallet under the same address.

Fees and timing

A native withdrawal has three parts. You pay a small network fee on Linea to start it. The bridge adds a fixed anti-DDOS fee of 0.001 ETH on every transfer from Linea to Ethereum. Then you pay a normal Ethereum fee to claim. The Linea docs say the native bridge charges nothing beyond these, and Linea does not profit from it.

The claim fee depends on how busy Ethereum is. On a small withdrawal, the claim and the 0.001 ETH fee together can take a noticeable share of the amount. In that case, a fast bridge is often cheaper as well as quicker.

Fast bridges show the fee as the amount you will receive. They cover the waiting time with their own funds, so the fee pays for that. The "All Bridges" tab compares routes through LI.FI. The Linea docs say it is often faster than the native bridge but costs slightly more.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting the claim on Ethereum. A native withdrawal is not finished until you claim it.
  • Having no ETH on Ethereum when the withdrawal is ready to claim.
  • Not keeping enough ETH on Linea for the 0.001 ETH anti-DDOS fee.
  • Leaving a withdrawal unclaimed for more than 90 days and then not finding it in the bridge app.
  • Picking CCTP standard mode for USDC when you need the money soon. It can take hours.
  • Sending from Linea straight to an exchange address that only accepts deposits on Ethereum.
  • Using a fake bridge site found through an ad.

Before you transfer

  • Plan for two transactions on the native bridge: one on Linea, one on Ethereum.
  • Keep ETH on Ethereum for the claim before you start.
  • Claim within 90 days so the transfer still shows in the bridge app.
  • For USDC, fast CCTP mode takes seconds. Standard mode can take hours.
  • For small amounts, compare the total cost of a fast bridge with the 0.001 ETH fee plus the claim.
  • Open bridge sites from official links only, and check the address bar before you sign.

Frequently asked questions

About 2 to 12 hours for ETH and other tokens through the native bridge, according to the Linea docs. After that you claim on Ethereum. Fast bridges like Across and Relay usually pay you in seconds or minutes.

The native bridge splits a withdrawal into two transactions. You start it on Linea, and once the batch is proven you release the funds with a transaction on Ethereum. Linea's automatic claiming does not cover withdrawals to Ethereum.

If it is older than 90 days and still unclaimed, the app no longer shows it. The funds can still be claimed by following the Linea message service docs. If it is newer, check that you are connected with the same wallet and contact Linea support if needed.

A network fee on Linea, a fixed anti-DDOS fee of 0.001 ETH, and the Ethereum fee for the claim. The Linea docs say there is no other bridge fee.

The fast mode of Circle CCTP, which is built into the Linea native bridge. The Linea docs put it at about 8 seconds, followed by a manual claim. Standard mode is cheaper but takes about 2 to 12 hours.

No. It has to wait until its batch is proven on Ethereum. Only a new transfer through a fast bridge avoids the wait.
