Scroll to Ethereum bridge
Scroll is a zkEVM rollup on Ethereum. A withdrawal through the official Scroll bridge waits until its batch is proven and finalized on Ethereum, and then you claim the funds on Ethereum yourself. Orbiter and Stargate are faster third party options that pay you on Ethereum without a claim.

Short answer
Scroll is a layer 2 network that proves its transactions to Ethereum with validity proofs. It uses the same 0x addresses as Ethereum and pays gas in ETH. Moving funds back to Ethereum means either a native withdrawal through portal.scroll.io or a third party bridge.
A native withdrawal has two parts. You start it on Scroll, then wait until the batch containing it is proven and finalized on Ethereum. After that you send a claim transaction on Ethereum and pay the gas in ETH. Scroll's docs do not give a fixed time, and guides report from under an hour to a few hours. Third party bridges pay you on Ethereum without a claim, for a fee.
| Network type | zkEVM rollup |
|---|---|
| Native withdrawal | Wait for proof finalization, then claim |
| Claim on Ethereum | Separate transaction, gas paid in ETH |
| Fastest option | A third party bridge, no claim needed |
| USDC on Scroll | Bridged USDC (Circle's Bridged USDC Standard), no CCTP |
Why this route is difficult
Scroll is a zk rollup, so withdrawals do not wait out a week long challenge period like optimistic rollups. They still wait until the batch with your withdrawal is proven and finalized on Ethereum.
After that the funds do not arrive on their own. You send a claim transaction on Ethereum and pay its gas in ETH. Fast bridges skip both steps by paying you on Ethereum from their own liquidity.
Possible approaches
1Official bridge
Send funds through the Scroll bridge contracts on Scroll, then claim them from the bridge contracts on Ethereum once the proof is final.
Trade-offRelies only on Scroll and Ethereum contracts, but takes longer and needs a claim.
2Intent based fast bridge
A relayer pays you on Ethereum and is repaid later from your deposit on Scroll. Check that the bridge you pick still lists Scroll.
Trade-offSeconds instead of hours, but you pay a fee and rely on the bridge's design.
3Liquidity network
Stargate or Orbiter move funds through their own liquidity and messaging.
Trade-offUseful for comparing quotes, but each adds its own trust model and fees.
Options compared
| Option | You get | Typical time | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Official Scroll bridge | ETH, USDC or listed tokens on Ethereum | Depends on proof finalization, guides report under an hour to a few hours | Scroll gas plus Ethereum gas for the claim | Trust minimized withdrawals and larger amounts |
| Across | ETH, USDC and others on Ethereum | Seconds | Bridge fee shown in the quote | Speed, if Across still lists Scroll when you check |
| Orbiter or Stargate | ETH or supported tokens on Ethereum | Shown before you confirm | Bridge fee plus gas | Comparing quotes |
Working solutions
| Solution | You receive | Custody / verification | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scroll official bridge | ETH, USDC or listed tokens on Ethereum | Scroll bridge contracts on Ethereum, secured by zk proofs | Wait for the proof to be finalized, then claim on Ethereum. |
| Across | ETH, USDC and others on Ethereum | Intent based relayers | Scroll is not on Across's current list of supported chains. Check the Across app before you plan on this route. |
| Orbiter | ETH and supported tokens on Ethereum | Makers front funds on the destination | Listed as a third party bridge in the Scroll portal. |
| Stargate | Supported tokens on Ethereum | Liquidity pools with LayerZero messaging | Listed as a third party bridge in the Scroll portal. |
How to move Scroll to Ethereum
Withdraw with the official Scroll bridge
- 1
Have ETH on both sides
Keep a little ETH on Scroll to start the withdrawal, and some ETH in the same wallet on Ethereum to pay for the claim later.
- 2
Start the withdrawal on Scroll
Go to portal.scroll.io, open the bridge and connect your wallet. Set Scroll as the source and Ethereum as the destination, pick the token and amount, and sign on Scroll.
- 3
Wait for finalization
The withdrawal waits until its batch is proven and finalized on Ethereum. The transaction history in the portal shows when it is ready to claim.
- 4
Claim on Ethereum
Come back to the portal with the same wallet and press claim. Sign the Ethereum transaction and pay the gas. The funds then appear at your address on Ethereum.
Fees and timing
Starting the withdrawal costs a small amount of ETH as gas on Scroll.
The claim is a separate Ethereum transaction paid in ETH. When Ethereum is busy it can cost more than the Scroll side, so check gas before claiming a small amount.
Fast third party bridges include their fee in the quote and need no claim. Compare the amount you receive, not only the fee.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting the claim. A native withdrawal is not finished until you claim it on Ethereum.
- Having no ETH on Ethereum when the withdrawal is ready to claim.
- Looking for a CCTP route for USDC on Scroll. USDC there is bridged USDC, so use the official bridge or a third party bridge and check which token you get on Ethereum.
Before you transfer
- Send a small test amount first if you have not used the route before.
- For a small withdrawal through the official bridge, check that the Ethereum claim fee does not eat most of it.
- Open portal.scroll.io from a bookmark or the link on scroll.io, not from an ad.
Frequently asked questions
With the official bridge it waits until its batch is proven and finalized on Ethereum, then you claim it. Scroll's docs do not give a fixed time, and guides report from under an hour to a few hours. Third party fast bridges are usually quicker.
Yes. The official bridge does not send the funds on its own. When the portal shows the withdrawal as ready, you sign a claim transaction on Ethereum and pay the gas in ETH.
No. USDC on Scroll is bridged USDC under Circle's Bridged USDC Standard, not native USDC moved by CCTP. Use the official bridge or a third party bridge.
No. Scroll uses validity proofs instead of a challenge period. The wait is only for the proof of your batch to be finalized on Ethereum.
