How to move USDT between networks
USDT exists on many networks, but each version lives only on its own network. TRC-20 on TRON and ERC-20 on Ethereum are different tokens with the same price. Pick the network first, then the way to move it.
USDT is a different token on every network
Tether issues USDT natively on several networks, including TRON, Ethereum, Solana, TON and others. A TRC-20 USDT can only be sent on TRON, and an ERC-20 USDT only on Ethereum. Sending one to an address on the wrong network is the most common way people lose USDT.
On some networks, such as Base, Tether does not issue USDT natively. There you will usually receive a bridged version or USDC instead.
USDT0 and Legacy Mesh
USDT0 is the version of USDT that moves between networks with LayerZero's OFT standard: it is burned on one network and minted on the other, with no wrapped copy. It is used on Arbitrum, Optimism, Ink, Unichain, Berachain and other networks.
Legacy Mesh connects the original USDT on Ethereum, TRON and TON with the USDT0 networks, so you can move USDT between them through supported apps.
Main ways to move USDT
Choose by where you start and where you are going:
- Exchange: deposit USDT on one network and withdraw on another. Often the cheapest path between TRON and other networks.
- USDT0 apps and Stargate: for USDT between EVM networks that support them.
- Intent-based bridges such as Relay, Across and deBridge: fast transfers, sometimes swapping USDT to USDC on arrival.
- Aggregators such as LI.FI and Jumper: compare several routes in one place.
- Cross-chain swap services: for TRON and other non-EVM networks.
Fees to expect
TRON transfers use energy and bandwidth. Without TRX or rented energy the fee is taken in TRX and can be several dollars. On Ethereum, USDT transfers cost more gas than on L2s. Exchanges charge a fixed withdrawal fee that differs by network, so compare it before choosing.
Common mistakes
Avoid these:
- Choosing the wrong network when withdrawing from an exchange.
- Sending TRC-20 USDT to a 0x address, or ERC-20 USDT to a T address.
- Not having gas on the destination network to move the USDT afterwards.
- Buying a fake USDT token: always check the contract address.

How to move USDC between networks
Circle issues native USDC on many networks and moves it with its own transfer protocol, CCTP. The main thing to watch is whether you receive native USDC or an older bridged version such as USDC.e.

On Ethereum and its rollups ETH is the native coin that pays for gas. On other networks it is a wrapped token. Third-party bridges move ETH between rollups in seconds, while official rollup bridges are slower on the way out.

Bitcoin cannot leave its own network. To use BTC on Ethereum, Solana or an L2 you either hold a wrapped version such as cbBTC, WBTC or tBTC, or swap native BTC directly with a cross-chain swap service.
