Issuer transfer protocol

USDT0

USDT0 is the way Tether’s USDT moves between networks. It is built on LayerZero’s standard and backed 1:1 by USDT locked on Ethereum. A separate service, the Legacy Mesh, connects older USDT on TRON and TON.

How it works

  1. 1USDT is locked in a contract on Ethereum, and the same amount of USDT0 is created on other networks. Ethereum stays the single source of truth for the supply.
  2. 2Moving USDT0 between networks burns it on the starting network and creates it on the destination, using LayerZero messages.
  3. 3For networks that still use the original USDT, such as TRON and TON, the Legacy Mesh routes the transfer through a USDT0 pool on Arbitrum. It charges 0.03% of the amount, plus .

Trust model

You trust Tether, which issues USDT, plus the USDT0 operator Everdawn Labs and LayerZero. Each transfer has to be signed off by three parties: USDT0, LayerZero and Canary.

Strengths

  • You get USDT0 or real USDT at the other end, not a own wrapped copy.
  • One supply across about 30 networks, so there are no separate pools to run dry on the OFT path.
  • Also carries XAUT0, Tether’s gold token, on 14 networks. Moving XAUT0 inside the network has no protocol fee.

Limitations

  • Only for Tether assets. It does not move other tokens.
  • The Legacy Mesh to TRON and TON costs 0.03% and depends on the pool on Arbitrum.
