How to send USDT to TRON (TRC-20)

To get USDT TRC-20 you need a TRON address starting with T and a route that pays out on TRON. Exchanges are usually the cheapest, instant exchanges are the simplest, and a few cross-chain services cover TRON. Ethereum and other EVM bridges do not reach TRON directly.

What you need first

A TRON wallet such as TronLink, Trust Wallet or a hardware wallet with a TRON account. Your address starts with T and is not the same as your 0x address.

A little TRX on that address. Moving USDT on TRON later uses energy, and without TRX the transfer fails or burns more TRX.

Why most bridges do not reach TRON

TRON uses its own address format and its own USDT contract. Most EVM such as Across, Stargate or Relay do not support it, so the usual path is a swap or an exchange withdrawal that pays out USDT TRC-20.

Legacy Mesh connects USDT on Ethereum, TRON and TON with USDT0 networks, so some apps can move USDT to TRON without an exchange.

Main ways to get USDT TRC-20

Pick by where your USDT is now:

  • : deposit USDT from any network and withdraw choosing TRON (TRC-20). Usually the cheapest.
  • Instant exchange such as ChangeNOW or SideShift: send USDT from Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana or another network and receive USDT TRC-20.
  • such as Rango: compare routes that end on TRON.
  • Apps that support USDT0 and Legacy Mesh: for USDT coming from Ethereum or USDT0 networks.

Fees to expect

Receiving USDT on TRON is free. The fees are on the sending side: on the source network, of the service, or the exchange withdrawal fee for TRC-20.

When you later send USDT from TRON, energy is needed. Holding TRX or renting energy makes each transfer much cheaper.

Common mistakes

Avoid these:

  • Pasting a 0x address when a T address is required, or the other way around.
  • Withdrawing from an exchange on ERC-20 or BEP-20 when you wanted TRC-20.
  • Receiving USDT on a fresh TRON address with no TRX to move it later.
  • Using a fake USDT token: the official TRC-20 contract is TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t.
