How to get USDC on Base
Base has native USDC issued by Circle, so you can receive the real token, not a wrapped copy. From Ethereum and other CCTP networks you can move USDC by burning and minting, intent-based bridges deliver it in seconds, and many exchanges withdraw directly to Base. Keep a little ETH on Base for gas.
Native USDC vs USDbC
Main ways to get USDC on Base
Pick by where your money is now:
- Centralized exchange: withdraw USDC choosing the Base network. Coinbase and many other exchanges support it.
- CCTP: burn USDC on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Solana or another supported network and mint native USDC on Base. Available in Circle-powered apps and many bridges.
- Intent-based bridges such as Across and Relay: USDC usually arrives in seconds.
- Aggregators such as LI.FI or Jumper: compare routes and swap other tokens into USDC on Base.
- On-ramp: buy USDC with a card directly on Base in wallets such as Coinbase Wallet.
Gas on Base
Base is an Optimistic Rollup on Ethereum, and gas is paid in ETH. Fees are usually cents, but you still need some ETH to move USDC after it arrives.
Several bridges, such as Relay, can deliver a little ETH together with your USDC.
Withdrawing back to Ethereum
The official Base bridge takes about seven days to withdraw to Ethereum because of the challenge period. CCTP or an intent-based bridge brings USDC back in minutes.
Common mistakes
Avoid these:
- Receiving USDbC or another bridged USDC when an app needs native USDC.
- Withdrawing from an exchange on Ethereum instead of Base and paying higher fees.
- Arriving on Base with no ETH for gas.
- Adding a fake USDC token: always check the contract address.

Often yes. If you control the receiving address, the funds are usually just on a different network. The hard cases are exchange deposits and addresses you do not control.
