Liquidity bridge
Orbiter Finance
Orbiter moves ETH and stablecoins between Ethereum and its layer 2 networks. Instead of locking and minting, a liquidity provider called a Maker pays you from its own wallet on the destination network.
Official websiteHow it works
- 1You send funds to a Maker on the starting network. A small code in the amount tells the Maker which network you want.
- 2The Maker sees the deposit and sends the same asset, minus fees, from its own wallet on the destination network.
- 3Makers keep a deposit in Orbiter’s contracts on the networks they serve, which is meant to back their obligation to deliver.
Trust model
You rely on the Maker to deliver on the other side. Orbiter’s design backs this with the Maker’s deposit, but in practice you are trusting a small set of liquidity providers.
Strengths
- Fast. Orbiter says transfers between two wallets take 10 to 20 seconds.
- Covers many layer 2 networks, including zkSync, Linea, Scroll, Mantle and Base.
- You receive the normal version of the asset, not a wrapped token.
Limitations
- Mostly ETH, USDC and USDT. Not a tool for swapping into other tokens.
- Liquidity depends on the Makers, so larger amounts on rarer pairs may not be available.
