Bitcoin to BNB Chain Bridge

BTC on BNB Smart Chain usually means BTCB, a token issued by Binance and backed by BTC it holds. You can get BTCB by withdrawing from Binance, or straight from your own Bitcoin wallet with THORChain or Garden. If you do not need to keep BTC, swap it for BNB or USDT on BSC instead.

Short answer

First decide what you want on BNB Chain. If you want to keep Bitcoin exposure and use it in BSC apps, the standard token is BTCB, also called Binance-Peg BTC. Binance issues it and holds the real BTC behind it. If you want BNB or , a can sell your BTC and pay you those on BSC in one step.

There are two main ways to get BTCB. The custodial way is Binance: deposit BTC, then withdraw BTC on the BNB Smart Chain network, which arrives as BTCB. The way is a swap from your own Bitcoin wallet. THORChain lists BTCB among its BSC assets, and Garden supports BTCB on BNB Chain. Both take real BTC and pay BTCB on BSC without an exchange account.

Whatever you pick, BTCB is a claim on Binance. The token depends on Binance holding the BTC and honoring redemptions. Also, fees on BSC are paid in BNB. If your BSC wallet is new, get a little BNB too, or you cannot move your BTCB.

Why this route is difficult

BNB Smart Chain cannot hold or move coins on the Bitcoin network. Any way of having BTC on BSC needs someone who controls the real BTC on Bitcoin. On this route, that someone is mostly Binance.

BTCB is the token BSC apps use for Bitcoin. Binance holds the BTC and issues BTCB on BSC. That makes it easy to use in BSC apps, but its value depends on Binance keeping the coins and letting holders redeem through the exchange.

Swap services change how you get BTCB, not what backs it. THORChain and Garden take your real BTC and pay you BTCB that already exists on BSC. You skip the exchange account, but you still end up holding a Binance-backed token.

If you do not need Bitcoin exposure, a swap into BNB or USDT avoids the question. During the swap your coins sit with the service for a short time, and afterwards you no longer hold BTC.

Possible approaches

1Exchange-issued token

Deposit BTC to Binance and withdraw on the BNB Smart Chain network to receive BTCB.

Trade-offSimple and widely used, but Binance holds the BTC and may ask for identity checks.

2Native cross-chain swap

Send real BTC to THORChain and receive BTCB, BNB or stablecoins on BSC.

Trade-offNo account needed. hold the coins during the swap, and big trades can face .

3Atomic swap

Garden matches your BTC with a who pays BTCB on BSC. A time lock lets you reclaim BTC if the swap is not filled.

Trade-offNo shared vault during the swap, but you still end up holding Binance-backed BTCB.

4Intent swap

You send BTC to a deposit address and a solver pays you a BSC token through NEAR Intents.

Trade-offHandles many output tokens. The fee is inside the quote, so compare a few services.

How to move Bitcoin to BNB Chain

These steps show how to swap BTC for BTCB with THORChain, using an app or wallet that has THORChain built in. It needs no account. If you want BNB instead, choose BNB on BSC as the output in the same flow.

  1. 1

    Get a BSC address ready

Use a wallet you control that supports BNB Smart Chain, such as MetaMask, Rabby or a hardware wallet. The address starts with 0x. Add BNB Smart Chain (chain ID 56) if it is not there yet.

  2. 2

    Get a quote

Pick BTC on Bitcoin as what you send and BTCB on BSC as what you get. Check the amount you will receive, the fees and the expected time. For large amounts, the app may offer a streaming swap that splits the trade to get a better price.

  3. 3

Send from your own Bitcoin wallet

THORChain needs swap instructions attached to your payment (a ), or a deposit address made for your swap. Never send to a THORChain address from an exchange, because exchanges cannot attach the memo. Use a Bitcoin wallet that works with the app.

  4. 4

Pick a fee that confirms quickly

Check current Bitcoin fees on a site like mempool.space and choose one that should confirm soon. THORChain waits for more on bigger amounts, so large swaps take longer.

  5. 5

    Track the swap

Paste your Bitcoin transaction ID into a THORChain explorer such as Runescan. You will see when the deposit is seen, swapped and paid out. The BTCB then shows on BscScan under your 0x address.

  6. 6

    Get some BNB

You need BNB to move or use BTCB on BSC. If your wallet has none, do a small second swap into BNB, or withdraw a little BNB from an exchange.

Fees and timing

The Bitcoin comes first. It depends on how busy Bitcoin is and on the size of your transaction. Choosing a very low fee saves a little, but a slow confirmation can lead to a refund if the price moves.

Then comes the service cost. Binance charges a withdrawal fee for BTC on the BSC network. THORChain takes a swap fee and an outbound fee, plus any fee the app adds. Garden and NEAR Intents build their margin into the quote. Compare the amount of BTCB or BNB you will actually receive.

Fees on BNB Smart Chain are paid in BNB and are low. Timing is mostly about Bitcoin. Each service waits for its own number of Bitcoin confirmations, and Binance sets its own deposit rules. BSC adds almost no delay.

Common mistakes

  • Arriving on BSC with BTCB and no BNB. You cannot move it until you add BNB.
  • Sending BTC from an exchange to a THORChain address. The exchange cannot add the memo.
  • Thinking BTCB is real Bitcoin. It is a token backed by BTC that Binance holds.
  • Withdrawing BTC from Binance on the Bitcoin network when you wanted BSC, or the other way round. Check the network name.
  • Pasting a Bitcoin address where a BSC 0x address is needed, or a 0x address where a Bitcoin address is needed.
  • Choosing the cheapest Bitcoin fee for a swap. A slow confirmation can lead to a refund minus fees.

Before you transfer

  • Holding BTCB means holding a claim on Binance, not BTC itself.
  • Keep some BNB in your BSC wallet, or swap a small part into BNB.
  • When a service needs a memo, send from your own Bitcoin wallet, never from an exchange.
  • For large swaps, compare quotes and consider a streaming swap on THORChain.
  • Check the network name on every exchange withdrawal. BSC and Bitcoin are different options.
  • Send a small test first if the route is new to you.
