Dogecoin to Solana Bridge

You can swap real DOGE for SOL or stablecoins through THORChain or NEAR Intents, or sell it on an exchange. To keep DOGE, there is a DOGE token on Solana built with Wormhole and handed out through the Sunrise gateway.

Short answer

First decide what you want on Solana. If it is SOL or USDC, you are doing a swap, not a . THORChain and NEAR Intents both take real DOGE and pay real coins on Solana, with no exchange account. An exchange is the familiar backup.

If you want to keep DOGE and use it in Solana apps, you need a DOGE token on Solana. The one with real backing is the Wormhole DOGE. It uses math proofs (zero-knowledge proofs) to show that the DOGE was really deposited on Dogecoin, and it is handed out through Sunrise. It is newer than the swap routes. Before moving a large amount, check the official Sunrise or Wormhole channels for the right token address and its current status.

Dogecoin is the slow part of the trip. A block comes about once a minute, and most services wait for several before acting. So waiting 20 to 60 minutes is normal. It does not mean something broke.

Why this route is difficult

Dogecoin is built like Bitcoin. Blocks come about once a minute, and it is mined together with Litecoin. It only supports simple spending rules and has no . So you cannot lock DOGE in a program that releases it based on what happens on Solana.

That rules out the usual design, where both networks enforce the rules. Any DOGE token on another network needs someone to hold the real coins: a company, a group of signers, or a system that proves Dogecoin deposits to the other network.

The Wormhole DOGE uses proofs. Zero-knowledge proofs, built with partners such as Psy and RISC Zero, confirm Dogecoin deposits. So new tokens on Solana do not rely only on a company's word. But the real DOGE still has to be held somewhere on Dogecoin. You trust the design and the people who run it, even if that is less trust than with a plain .

Swaps skip the problem by not putting DOGE on Solana at all. THORChain keeps DOGE in vaults that a group of controls together. NEAR Intents uses who settle on NEAR. You end up with real SOL or , and you no longer hold DOGE.

Possible approaches

1Native cross-chain swap

You sell real DOGE for SOL or a stablecoin through a network of validators or solvers.

Trade-offWorks today with real coins on both sides, but you no longer hold DOGE.

2Zero-knowledge verified token

Dogecoin deposits are confirmed with math proofs, and DOGE is issued on Solana through Wormhole.

Trade-offYou keep DOGE and trust less than with a company, but the technology is new and less tested.

3Custodial wrapped DOGE

A company holds DOGE and issues a token for it on Solana.

Trade-offYou keep DOGE, but you depend on the company and on its process for giving coins back.

4Centralized exchange

Deposit DOGE, sell it, and withdraw SOL or a stablecoin on the Solana network.

Trade-offSimple and easy to trade, but you need an account and the exchange holds your money until you withdraw.

How to move Dogecoin to Solana

These steps show a DOGE to SOL swap through THORChain. It needs no account and you get real SOL. NEAR Intents feels the same for you: send DOGE to a deposit address, receive on Solana.

  1. 1

    Pick a THORChain app

Use a wallet or app that supports THORChain swaps from Dogecoin, such as Vultisig, Ctrl Wallet or THORSwap. Choose DOGE as what you send and SOL as what you get.

  2. 2

    Enter your Solana address

Paste a Phantom or Solflare address. Check it twice. The payout goes straight to that address and cannot be reversed.

  3. 3

Check the quote and the minimum

Look at how much SOL you will get, the fees and the minimum swap amount. On very small swaps, the payout fee can eat most of the value. Amounts under the minimum may be refunded or lost to fees.

  4. 4

Let the app send the DOGE

THORChain needs swap instructions (a ) attached to the Dogecoin transaction, or a special deposit flow that the app sets up. Let the app build and sign the transaction. Do not send DOGE by hand to a THORChain address.

  5. 5

    Wait for Dogecoin confirmations

Follow the transaction on a Dogecoin explorer and on a THORChain tracker such as Runescan. Blocks come about once a minute, and THORChain waits for several confirmations before it starts.

  6. 6

Check that SOL arrived on Solscan

Once the swap runs, the SOL payment shows on Solscan within a few minutes. If the swap fails, for example because the price moved past your limit, THORChain sends the DOGE back to the sending address, minus fees.

Fees and timing

Dogecoin network fees are low, so sending DOGE is not where your money goes. The main costs are the swap fees. On THORChain you pay a pool fee that grows the bigger your trade is compared to the pool, plus a payout fee for the Solana transaction. On NEAR Intents and instant-swap services, the cost is hidden in the rate. On an exchange, you pay the trading fee plus a fixed withdrawal fee.

Most of the waiting is Dogecoin confirmations. With blocks about every minute and services that wait for several of them, a swap often takes 20 minutes or more before anything happens on Solana. Exchanges usually wait for more confirmations than swap services, and busy times can make it longer.

For bigger amounts, get quotes from THORChain, NEAR Intents and an exchange. The cheapest option changes with how much money each one has available. A few minutes of comparing can save more than any single fee.

Common mistakes

  • Buying a token called DOGE on a Solana DEX without checking its token address. Meme tokens with DOGE in the name are everywhere on Solana and are not backed by Dogecoin.
  • Sending DOGE by hand to a THORChain address without the memo. At best you get a refund. At worst the money is lost.
  • Thinking wrapped DOGE on Ethereum or BNB Chain can become DOGE on Solana. Those tokens come from different issuers and do not convert by themselves.
  • Reusing an old THORChain quote or deposit address. These addresses change, so always get a new quote right before you send.
  • Swapping so little that fees take most of it, especially the fixed payout fee.
  • Panicking after 15 minutes and sending again. Confirmations take time. Sending again starts a second swap, it does not speed up the first.

Before you transfer

  • Decide first: SOL and stablecoins, or DOGE on Solana? Swaps and the Wormhole DOGE token do different jobs.
  • Check any DOGE token on Solana against official Sunrise or Wormhole sources. Fake tokens with similar names exist.
  • Dogecoin deposits need several confirmations before a swap starts. Plan for 20 minutes or more.
  • Wrapped DOGE from Ethereum or BNB Chain does not work on Solana.
  • Use an app that adds the THORChain memo for you. Do not send to a THORChain address by hand.
  • Check the minimum swap amount so fixed fees do not eat a small transfer.
  • For bigger amounts, compare quotes from swap services and an exchange.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, with the Wormhole DOGE token handed out through Sunrise. Check the token address on official channels, because fake DOGE meme tokens are common on Solana.

Use THORChain or NEAR Intents. Both take real DOGE from your own wallet and pay real SOL to a Solana address. No account needed.

Usually 20 to 60 minutes. Dogecoin makes a block about once a minute, and swap services and exchanges wait for several confirmations before paying out on Solana.

Not real DOGE. Phantom holds Solana tokens, so you need a swap that pays out SOL, or a DOGE token issued on Solana. Sending a Dogecoin transaction to a Solana address will fail or lose your money.

It stands for DOGE held on Dogecoin, but it is a separate token on Solana. Its value depends on the backing system working properly and on being able to swap it back.

THORChain sends the DOGE back to the address it came from, minus fees. Common reasons: the amount was below the minimum, the memo was missing or wrong, or the price moved past your limit.

Not one where Solana checks Dogecoin directly, because Dogecoin has no smart contracts. The closest thing is the Wormhole DOGE token, which uses math proofs of Dogecoin deposits.
